Classic Dentures – Complete Dentures and Partial Dentures

What is a “Classic Denture”?

A Classic Denture usually refers to a traditional (non-implant-based) denture. The term can also refer to a partial denture, but in both cases, classic dentures are dentures that aren’t supported by dental implants (dentures that are supported by implants are called implant-supported dentures or implant-retained dentures).

Two-Types of Non-Implant Dentures

There are generally two types of non-implant dentures that we offer. The first type is a complete denture which replaces all of your teeth (top jaw and bottom jaw, or top jaw only, or bottom jaw only). The second type is a removable partial dentures which replace some of your missing teeth but not all of them. So if you have teeth remaining in an arch (your top jaw or bottom jaw) we will likely make you a removable partial denture (known commonly as “a partial”) and if you don’t have any teeth in the arch, the soluton will be a full denture.

Partial Dentures (Removable Partial Dentures)

A removable partial denture is one that replaces a few of your teeth, but also comes in and out at night. In the category of removable partial dentures there are three general types that we have:

Cast Partial Dentures – these partials could be called “classic dentures” in that they are a staple of dental care and we’ve been using them successfully for decades. A cast partial denture is one where the teeth sit on a cast (metal) frame which provides for tremendous stability and strenght for eating and chewing.

Flexible Dentures – flexites or “flexibile” dentures are dentures that are made from a special type of material that is strong, but flexes. The advantage of this type of partial is that there is no metal in the partial, so it’s more esthetic. The disadvantage of this type of denture is that it may put more wear and tear on vulnerable teeth.
